Tis' the season to be jolly

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Back in July, my work was hectic and my schedule was all over the place, I requested this time and its been the best idea I have ever had. Last few days have been wonderful, relaxing and perfect. I've drunk my weight in champagne, caught up on every TV-show I have had PVR-ed, taken endless naps, spent most of the days in pj’s and my cell phone's battery has been dead for days. There is something amazing about being disconnected from my work and personal phone.
This time off and Holidays were an absolute delight; It was time well spent and I can't remember the last time I felt this relaxed and content.

Hope you are having wonderful Holidays.

(yes, I cheated! No internet does not work for me)

A look forward ... a look back!

Monday, December 22, 2014

How time flies… I have been blogging for nearly two years!!! Where did the time go? I would love to say Thank you for such a wonderful two years.  I loved your amazing comments and emails; I can’t explain how grateful I am for this little blog community. I am very much looking forward to new series and exciting new posts in 2015.

Here's a quick look back over the past year, if you'd like...
Travel: Anything from Why do you travel? to What to pack? and few things in between.

To getting a lot more personal and starting my favourite section of the blog.
Food: Since this was the year I actually stared cooking, I shared few of my favourites.

Once again, Thank you so much for everything! I am taking few days off from work to be with my family; According to my father, my siblings and I spend wayyyy to much time attached to our iPhones and laptops, so years ago they introduced this crazy rule of “un-plugging from the internet” during the holidays. Saying this, I am leaving my laptop in the city and will have very limited time with my beloved iPhone.

I’ll be back to regular posting on January 5th, if you're in a blog-reading mood.

TGIF- Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday, December 19, 2014

What are you up to this weekend? This week has been exceptionally slow at work making the week very long. This weekend I m having few friends over for our Secret Santa gift exchange. I am counting down minutes until its 4:30pm and I can go take a nap …. And then bake for Saturday festivities.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

OOTD - winter whites

Do you wear white during winter? I think the rule of no white after labour day is kind of no fun. I like to once in a while throw on a white dress during the Holidays.
I wore this dress to one of the Christmas parties. its comfortable and all the lace details made it pretty. Shockingly enough, there was two other people wearing all white at that party.

Sunspel- Luxury everyday clothing.

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

I recently got introduced to a brand called Sunspel. Have you ever heard of it? Sunspel is a British brand that was founded by Thomas A Hill in 1860. The brand is about everyday men and womens luxury clothing. The idea behind the brand was to make simple, everyday basics with beautiful and timeless fabrics. After browsing their website its needless to say, all the pieces are effortlessly cool. I will be definitely putting few of those on my Christmas wish list this year.

I'd love to wear that charcoal dress on dinner dates, and how great is the navy loopback sweatshirt?

Sunspel offers timeless pieces, crafter with wool, loopback cotton and cashmere; pieces that can be styled for any occasion and that can effortlessly be dressed up or down.
For their entire timeless and wonderful collection for women and men check out Sunspel.com

get to know me fact: I was a personal shopper for 3 years during Christmas. Most people just told me who they need gifts for and I was left on my own to figure it out. This was probably my favourite job. EVER.

10 before 30: Collect moments not things.

Monday, December 8, 2014

If you remember as part of my 10 before 30, I wanted to be happy. That might seem funny & weird but how many people do you know that can say are genuinely happy about life? I wrote about being happy and what it takes ,so using some of those and coming to terms with a lot of things I can sincerely say I am happy.  Somewhere along the way I learned that being happy doesn’t mean having everything you wanted and doing all the things you though you would do. I always did my best to try be happy but something was always lacking. It wasn’t until I got to Sarajevo and hugged my grandma that it donned on me. It’s the people and memories that made happy, it’s the way that city made me feel, way I smiled and laughed more often when I was with old friends and family; its brought the best out in me. As all other times I was there, I knew I couldn’t stay and that me being truly happy was temporary, I  decided that this time it would be different. It had to be. One of the sleepless nights I thought about what was it about being in Bosnia that made everything better, list got long pretty fast… however most of it could be applied to anywhere, it was all about how I approached things. I chose to be happy when I was there because all the things I loved where there and some of the best memories and times where with family and friends there. I came to terms that I have to make living in Edmonton work the same way, after all it was worth a shot. Next  morning I felt like a huge burden was lifted of my shoulders…  Lesson in this whole thing: life is what you make it, your happiness included. You can not be happy if you chose to see life as glass half empty.

Magic of December

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

I love Holiday seasons. People are happier and cheery, wine and champaign are plentiful and your loved ones are usually close by. As a kid, winter holidays were magical, last day of classes in December meant hot chocolate by the fire, days spend playing in the snow with my siblings,  endless books and TV time and there was no limit to amount of cookies you were allowed to eat.

As an adult I get so busy, and December gets so hectic and before I know its over and I missed the magic of it. Even tho, I've accepted the fact that the holidays are different now than they were when I was a kid, I refuse to accept that holidays should be any less enjoyable.
I plan make this month December just as magical, filled with all the little things that made me so happy as a kid.

Five things to do this December:
1) build a snowman
2) make time to sit by the fire and read a book
3) bake as many cookies, cakes and pastries as possible in one day and take them to friends and neighbours.
4) go sledding.
5) spend time outside

get to know me fact: Christmas is not part of my culture but I love the idea behind it; spending time with your loved ones, sharing food and joy,  and getting them gifts is a great reason to celebrate Christmas.
