How to: Dress for success in work place

Thursday, July 30, 2015

My work has a very strict dress code... its suites and ties kind of place. Since I spend most of my time at work, this makes it kind of boring and very hard to add "personality" to your wardrobe. You never wanna look unprofessional or "piss off" your bosses by straying away from the dress code but you also don't want to just blend in.  Over time I found ways to stay within very limited guidelines but to stay true to my own style.
1)Add color

Whole sale dress shop || Banana Republic

2)Mix and Match styles

J Crew || Marshall's

3) Add jewelry (personalize)

What do you wear to work? Does your work have a strict dress code?
Weather you have the job you want and working towards moving up; or you are starting a career; dress for the job you want, NOT the job you have. You never know who will notice you and where; Dressing like a professional and looking well put together might one day make a difference of you standing out and getting that job you been chasing after.

I do as much to make my work wardrobe as unique and as much ME as possible.

OOTD: A-line dress...

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

I love a good a-line dress because most of the time they are very comfortable and with right accessories you can wear them year round. This A-line dress became and remains a staple in my wardrobe. I picked this dress up while back at a local shop called Black and Bold.  Its simple cut is flattering on many body types and can be mixed and matched for pretty much any occasion or season.

OOTD - Printed maxi dress

Monday, July 27, 2015

My love for dresses is never ending and well document on Letters to LALA land so this dress was a much needed addition to my collection. Last week I attended the Bamboo Ballroom 10th anniversary event and that is where I found this gem.
There is something amazing about shopping at local shops, as they seem to have the best stuff. The color and cut of this dress are complimentary to any body type, and it's long enough (find a perfect length in a maxi dress when you are 5'9'' is hard).

Monthly beauty round up: VIIcode eye mask.

Thursday, July 23, 2015

A girlfriend of mine sent me a message couple of days ago in a panic ”I have wrinkles”; I laughed, mainly because she doesn’t and is fortune enough to have a skin of a 12 year old even though she is in her late twenties. However, since we are only couple years off our thirtieth birthdays, taking care of our skin has been a hot topic.

I recently got a chance to try VIIcode eye mask, which is an eye mask you wear overnight.  The mask works best on puffy eyes, wrinkles and fine lines that help leave your eyes healthy and radiant.  VIIcode eye mask needs to be applied twice or three times a week for best results; the box comes with 6 treatments.
I tested it out over course of a week and could notice that my eyes were less puffy and my dark circles were less visible; it also made my eyes more radiant. Wearing the VIIcode eye mask give me a well rested and glowy skin look.

OOTD - Black maxi

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Can you have way too many black dresses? I think not. This is one of my new favourite LBD (maxi version); I love the croche top and the flow of the dress, and the open back was the added bonus. I wore the dress with flats while in Seattle but it can be easily dressed up with some jewlery and heels.

How to do anything.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Letters to LALA land is a life and style blog, however as of late it's been a lot more style and very little life content. Some of the most read and poplar posts have been advice related content & how do deal... well with life.
So today I kick off a series that has been in the works for last few months & very near and dear to my heart: How to do anything!
How to do anything will be revolving about doing and dealing with things that life throws at us; whether its relationships, finances, DIY's or fashion questions, this series will take a stab on how to handle it.
Hope you enjoy.
P.S. If there is a topic or a question you want to see in this series, e-mail me and I will do my best to help figure it out.

OOTD-Midi dress with sleeves

Monday, July 20, 2015

Midi dresses are all the rage right now and the elbow length sleeve on this dress with full pleated skirt gives a perfect flare. In rich green this dress fast became a favorite. It's one of those dresses that are not only flattering on nearly every body type, it's also great for dressing up and dressing down, and it's perfect for all seasons.  I wore the dress with just simple jewelry for summer but I think this will be one of the dresses that will easily be transitioned into fall with a scarf and booties.

Travel guide: Edmonton

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

I have lived in Edmonton for over 14 years, and as much as I dread it sometimes it is a pretty awesome place to live at. I am an explorer and have no problem wandering endlessly around the city. As of late I have been showing a friend new places in Edmonton to visit (fun facts: She has lived in Edmonton her entire life).
(River Valley, best way to feel like you are no longer in the city)

Best places to eat:
Coroso 32:
You might wait for reservations for 2 weeks but trust me its worth the wait.

Canteen:
124th street never disappoints, this beautiful and intimate restaurant is great for a date night.

If you love steak and all kinds of meat this is a place for you. Great service and delicious food.

Best coffee in town! Alberta based company that caters to those who LOVE coffee.

Best dessert in town. This charming bake shop is located on 124 Street and never disappoints with its delicious treats.

Things to do:
It's best way to feel like you are no longer in the city, or exercise this is the place to go.

Whyte Ave:
From charming little shops, to restaurants and bars make you feel like you are on the streets in Europe.

Great date night idea, with amazing plays year round it is a a must to-do in Edmonton.

From shopping to restaurants to swimming to skating is all there.

What are you favourite places in Edmonton?
**This list of places and attractions is in no specific order; it is smiply a collection of places that might be of interest to those visiting Edmonton. All opinions expressed are mine and based on my person experiences with/in those places.

Road trip rules

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

(image via)
This weekend two friends and I are taking a road trip to Seattle via Jasper and Kelowna. I have taken few road trips before and have no fear of driving; one of my friends does, especially on unfamiliar roads. Over time I have establish few rules that make road trips funner and easier.

1) Travel with people you like. Driving for hours in a cramped space would be challenging to say the least if you don't get along with someone.

2) Invest in a good GPS. I am all about adventures but just so you don't end up on a one way street facing oncoming traffic, get a GPS. Physical map is a good idea too, just in case your GPS has no reception.

3) Create a good playlist. Music is important and can enhance the trip. Create a playlist of songs mixed from all genres; so when you are driving turn the music up, windows down and sing along.

4) Pack water and lots of healthy snacks. Road trips, like any travel, are excluded from diets, so pack those chips too. And lots of candy.

5) Research and plan your trip. I created a detailed itinerary for our trip, you might not need that but research the routes, things to do and places to stop along the way.

6) Learn how to change a flat tire. Sadly AMA will not come and help you when you are 6 hours away from the nearest town.

7) Check the oil and fluids before you leave. Safety first.

8) Be open minded. Everyone travels different and unexpected things happen on road trips, so be prepared to improvise and make most of it. No good story every started with just getting from point A to point B.

9) Split the costs of the trip: gas, hotel, food. This makes for a cheaper trip for everyone and makes it fair.

10) Get there safely and have a blast.

What are your road trip rules? Where is the best place you took a road trip to?

OOTD- Romping arund

Monday, July 6, 2015

Is there a point at which one is too old to wear shorts or a romper? I only ask because I haven’t been able to find a romper that fits quite right as I am pretty tall until recently. This print romper from Urban Outfitters caught my eye, as is exactly what I like; colorful, with a fun cut out back and pockets. Since rompers are one piece, getting ready when you’re crunched for time is easy. It’s like throwing on a prepared fun outfit that you can just put on without having to look for a matching top & bottoms.
I like that they are feminine and comfortable but am I too old to wear one?

Summer reads: 10 books you should read right now

(image via)

I love watching TV but I love reading more. I can imagine by now you are wondering where I get the time, little secret… I don’t sleep very much (I’ll sleep when I am dead). I would love to own a library one day, filled with books from floor to ceiling and to have all the time I want to ready. Even though, I read often, I tend to read books more during the summer season than any other. It might be because I travel more, spend more time relaxing outside or because there is more hours of daylight. There is no better way that to spend a day outside at the breach or by the pool reading a good book.
Today I’m sharing my own summer reading list; Some of those books have been on my Good reads list for a while, some I just discovered and I can’t wait to get to:

Beauty Buys: Summer Safe

Thursday, July 2, 2015

(image via google)
Summer is my favourite time of the year; I love the sunshine, warm wind and spending time outside. When I was a teenager, tanning was the way of life  and I was all about getting that sun-kissed glow or over tanning (or going orange… cue horrible self tanner stories!Eek.) I felt so much better about myself, more confident with a tan and never thought twice about the irreparable skin damage caused by UV rays.
Over time, I’ve learned to be (somewhat) OK with my natural skin tone and with the fear of getting wrinkles , I have found ways to stay safe:

Sunscreen: is the obvious one. Apply under make up or load up on sunblock every time you leave the house. Some products feel heavy but here are my favourites:

These two are my favourite. Both offer great protection and don't feel heavy.

Sunglasses & Hats: they are not just stylish but can keep you safe from UV rays and sun damage.

What do you do to keep summer safe?
