OOTD - White monochrome

Monday, August 31, 2015

I sometimes (unintentionally) wear the same color head to toe; to a point that it drives my sister nuts.  However, when combined on purpose I think there is something great about it; not only is it incredibly elegant, but a monochrome outfits always looks intentional and well put together. White is fresh and great for summer, so I paired up this all white outfit for dinner last night.

My Top 5 Beauty Picks

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

I love trying new things and especially new beauty products. The list below are some of my favourite beauty staples that are affordable.

1.Philosophy Face Cleanser Purity- I love this face wash! It's gentle enough for the eye area yet strong enough to remove make-up. This product is perfect for the person who loves to do 3 things in 1 step; remove make-up, tone and moisturize. You can get it at Sephora or if you are Canadian Shoppers now carries Philosophy in their beauty boutique.

2. Hashmi Kajal- I have tried so many eyeliners from Quo to Makeup Forever to Benefit. It is so hard to find the perfect one! But at the end I always come back to my Hashmi Kajal stick. It's cheap and lasts long without smudging and is made from all natural ingredients. It only costs $2.50, so it's definitly worth a try. You can buy it at any Indian or Arab grocery store they usually have it near the check out counter.

3. Tarte Coloured Clay CC Undereye Corrector- Concealer is the one product I never leave the house without slathering it on like war paint! I have tried so many to find the perfect one and for the moment this is it. This is the one product I feel confident leaving the house in, that I know fully covers my dark under eye circles.

4. Bioderma Photoderm Max Cream SPF 50+- Wrinkle make me super paranoid so I  started using sunscreen on my face everyday. This formula is light coverage and doesn't leave your skin feeling oily. I used it back to back for 2 weeks and no break outs! Amah-zing!

5. Make Up For Ever HD Blush -  Blush is essential if you don't want to look like a ghost in the morning. This creamy formula is just the right amount of coverage and really helps to highlight the cheekbones. You can apply this with a brush or your finger tips, which is great if you are running late.

What are your beauty picks? Is there anything you think I should try?

OOTD - Pink & black

Pink and black has always been one of my favorite color combinations. This spring I've been wearing the two colors together a lot, with both my outfits and my make-up (black eyeliner with a light (or not so light) pink lip). Even though, I already own a lot of pink yet I seem to gravitate toward buying more pink things. This Dynamite top was no exception; it's not only pink but its fun and very versatile. I paired it my favorite pair of black jeans and black heels for dinner with friends. What are you favorite go to color combinations?

How to Make Colorful Cactus Vases

Thursday, August 20, 2015

My parents are both great at keeping their gardens and plants alive and blossoming all the time; I on the other hand kill pretty much any plant I get. Once I actually killed a cactus...crazy right? (Yes, you can totally over water a cactus!). While at an event at Bamboo Ballroom I noticed these beautiful l cactus arrangement so I decided that I will take another stab at this owning a plant that I can actual keep alive. I made these cactus vases; they are fun and can used as center pieces or to brighten up any space... and they make awesome handmade gifts.
You will need:
Glass vase
Cactus plans
Rocks
Colored rocks (I used water tank rocks)
1) Put some rocks on the bottom of the vase. They help support your plant and keep any excess water you might add in there.
2) Carefully remove the cactus and place it in the vase. I recommended crumbling the bottom soil so it’s disbursed evenly in the vase.
3) Decorate with color rocks. Use a spoon to distribute rocks evenly in the vase

And you are done.
Now, lets hope I dont destoy these poor plants.

This whole project with 4 different vases cost me less than 30 dollars.

OOTD - Jeans and polka dots

Wednesday, August 19, 2015

Although I am not a jeans person (or pants person for that) I will wear them when pair with fun polka dots blouse. They’re just so cute and love how fun it is to wear them. I usually stick to black & white polka dots, but scored this blue and white polka dot shirt during my last retail therapy session (everyone has those? Right?... Anyone?)

Must Watch TV and Movies

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

netflix_television.jpg
As my friends say I watch all the TV and all the Movies, so here are my favourite TV shows and movies at the moment; beware I am currently a Netflix junkie, no cable TV for me right now. So for all the Big Brother fans don't be offended that it's not on my list. My favourites that I binge watched and finished over the past few months are:

The Mindy Project- Very funny in an overly dramatic, I can't believe this could ever happen kind of way. I love her, she's so extreme that you can't help but fall in love with her.

Suits- This is by far my most favourite show. Two words: Harvey Spector! He is the ultimate hate that I love you man. He and Donna are the two reasons I watch. I know many of you might disagree; but that woman is my idol and not just because of her wardrobe, which is spectacular.

Pretty Little Liars- I got hooked a long time ago and now the need to find out who "A" is drives me on. I love a good mystery and while all of the twists drive me nuts, I still can't help but continue watching to see if I am even a little bit close to being right.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine- I was not very into this show at first, but as you go from episode to episode it gets funnier and funnier. I loved Andy Samberg in Saturday Night Live which is what drew me to this show in the first place. I have to say, I am really looking forward to getting a notification on my phone that a new episodes have been added to Netflix.

Now moving on to the shows I am currently watching:

Orange is The New Black - My sister first introduced me to this show, unbeknownst to me I was actually watching season 2. I like it so much that I back-tracked and watched from the beginning. I am having a hard time getting through season 3. I just find the episodes long and drawn out and the most interesting parts happen in the first and last 5 minutes of each episode. I doubt I am going to finish this season.

Sense 8- I hadn't really heard anything about this show, it just kept popping up when I would finish another series, so I decided to give it a shot. The first half of episode one I was thinking "what the hell is this?" and by the second half, I was hooked. It is an interesting premise and like nothing else I have seen. I would highly reccomend it if you like shows that are outside of the box. I just started watching this a couple days ago and I am already through season 1.

Homeland - This is another show that I started watching but not continuously I go back to it every now and then. It's interesting but it's just very intense and once I stop watching it I find it hard to get back into.

The line up for shows that I have that I am going to watch are:

Witches of East End - This show has episodes that were added recently. I love the idea of witchcraft  and magic. Plus the men in it are yummy which is always a bonus.

Wet Hot American Summer First Day of Camp: First Day of Camp (2015) - I think it is safe to say that literally every actor is in this show! And I mean everyone. From Elizabeth Banks to Michael Cera to Bradley Copper to John Ham. Now if that isn't enough of a draw, I don't know what is. I did read a few of the reviews and a lot of them mention watching the movie first so that is on my list as well.

Wet Hot American Summer (2001) - Thankfully this is on Netflix so I am going to be watching this before I being the TV show.

What do you guys think do you agree with my picks? What are you guys watching?

OOTD - Pink Maxi

Monday, August 17, 2015

Is there anything better than a pretty maxi dress for hot summer days? I don’t think so. I love maxi dresses, the longer and  brighter the color the better. This maxi  caught my eye because of the beautiful back detail and I immediately knew that it will become one of my favorite dresses.

OOTD - Daisy dress

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

The warm weather and patios, seemingly endless sunshine and bright colours make summer one of my favourite times of the year. Buying this dress was stepping out of my comfort zone, considering I wear neutrals more often than not. The daisy embroidered dress has become one of my favourite ways to dress up. Not only because it's easy but because it packs a punch (especially when made in this cheerful yellow floral print). I wore this outfit to the Bamboo Ballroom 10th anniversary and can't wait to wear it paired with flats for a simple summer evening date.

Band of the Month: July Talk

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Image result for july talk album

I love music almost as much as I love books. The variety of tunes on my Ipod is extensive and I'll listen to pretty much anything. Why not share what you love?

I bought the July Talk album a few months ago because the contrast in the singer's voices immediately drew me in. He has a gravely deep deep voice and she sounds sweet enough to give you a tooth ache. Throw them together in an alternative/indie rock band and its perfect.

But it doesn't stop with just their sound. They recently played at show at K-days in Edmonton - free with gate admission ($6 for me). Yes, I said I saw this wicked band for $6. And the stage presence blew my mind! Leah continuously interacts with the audience - she was especially taken with a gentleman wearing a giant unicorn mask/head and brought him up on stage for a song. Another dude was brought on stage and ended up licking her armpit and getting a kiss from Peter. Oh my. The energy was incredible. The whole time.

This was the kind of show that made me love the band more and you left knowing they love their jobs. I highly recommend checking out the album and if you ever have a chance to see them, do it!
Please share your favourite band with me too!

OOTD - Prim and proper

Monday, August 10, 2015

With this hot weather (not that I am complaining) I have been living in dresses. My work is pretty conservative when it comes to the dress code, and I am 5’9’’, so finding nice yet professional dresses can be a challenge. I knew this dress was perfect the second I laid eyes on it. Retimans is one of the six banners belonging to Reitmans Canada Limited, the largest women’s fashion retailer in Canada. I could never find anything that really worked for me at Reitmans.

However, over the last year or so Reitmans has refreshed its look and I was pleasantly surprised how many pieces I actually loved. I picked up this dress along with few other things. The dress is well made, comfortable and even with my height fit perfectly. The lace detail and the colour are a perfect combination.
