How To Handle Your Debt

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Guess what costs money? Basically everything. Clothes - which we love. Shoes - which we love. Travelling - which we love. Food - which we love. We also live in a world of plastic pushing and instant gratification. Resulting in DEBT.

Debt is a big scary word that almost everyone I know is personally acquainted with. Here's a few strategies in handling your debt and maybe getting rid of it.

Make a Budget: Yes, another scary word. Except that it isn't. You would be shocked how much money can be spend on fast food, coffee obsessions, or sock collections (don't judge). Write it down. Make a plan and do your best to stick to it. It doesn't have to be a restrictive. It just helps to write it down.

Cash Only: Cut, freeze, or hide your plastic. It helps you stay aware of how much money you actually have and potentially slows down your impulse purchases.

Snowball Payments: Attack one card or loan at a time. Pick the smallest balance or the highest interest debt first. Make the required payments on all the others, and the rest of your debt repayment funds go on that. Once that one is paid off - attack the next one. Debt seems less overwhelming when there are less arms grabbing at your hard earned cash.

Start the Habit: Takes about 6 weeks for habits to form. Set the plan and try really hard to stick to it for 6 weeks. Cut out one really big thing - no coffees, no fast food, no clothes, no books, no travel. Or cut them all out if you are up for a super challenge. Eventually impulse spending doesn't come quite as easily as it did.

One or all of these things can help knock debt down and prevent it from growing. Pace yourself or challenge yourself - whatever suits your personality will be most successful. Good luck!

Top 5 Costumes for Halloween

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Halloween isn't just for children and trick-or-treating. It's also for adults to be creative, let loose and have some fun! So here are my top 5 picks for Halloween Costumes.

Sexy Donald Trump- I know it sounds insane but the man has been everywhere and has offended almost everyone at some point during his run for President, so why not have a little fun at his expense.
Super Heros- Super heros are fun and there are so many to choose from like Super Girl, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, because yes you can dress up as the female version of a male super hero. It's Halloween there are no rules.
Make-Up Costumes- These are costumes where the focal point is your make-up and the costume revolves around it like a skeleton, or a scarecrow, or if your adventurous a zipper. There are so many ideas and Youtube and Pinterest are a great resource for tutorials.
Group Costumes- Group costumes are always fun, you get all your friends together and dress up.  All for one and one for all! Speaking of you can go as the Musketeers, or for something retro and bad ass the Spice Girls, or NWA, you can even go as your favourite TV show Big Bang Theory, Orange is the New Black. Or if that isn't your style then a sport team Blue Jays, a Hockey Team. The possibilities are endless.

Food Costumes- This has to be my favourite type of costume, I mean who doesn't love food and the sheer creativity it takes to create these costumes is just mind blowing! There's Taco Tuesday, or Wing Wednesday, Chinese food take out box, pizza, condiments. Sweet treats like cupcakes, lollipops and donuts the list goes on. If this is your kind of costume I would definitely suggest checking out Pinterest for some DIY ideas.

Do you agree with my list? What are you guys dressing up as for Halloween?

Top 5 Books to Read This Fall

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Plunk down on a bench, pull up a chair, or plant yourself in bed, with a book and get lost. Check out one or all five of these books and let me know what you think! I'm hoping to get to them all too.

Interviews to accompany photos of people from New York. Sometimes touching, sometimes hilarious. A good reminder to count your blessings instead of thinking about what you don't have.

How has it been 10 years since Twilight came out? It's the reverse version of boy vampire meets girl. Now it's boy meets girl vampire. If you are a Twilight fan, you'll wanna to check this out!

A novel inspired by the Russian scientist, spy and inventor Lev Termen. Music, New York City, and love. Perfect combination to catch my attention.

This books looks awesome! The story of Jenny's life long battle with mental illness, in a hilarious and ridiculous manner? Bring on the humour. I truly believe in laughing my way through life, even when people think we "shouldn't joke about that".

A psychological thriller where a girl goes from watching and imagining to becoming involved in a murder. We need a little thrill and suspense in our lives, it shouldn't just be left for the screen.

Happy Reading!

Fall Must Watch TV-Review

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Awhile back we compiled a list of fall must watch TV.  This is my follow up to my top picks of the Fall TV premieres, so here's what I think so far about the shows I picked.

Quantico- I am hooked this show has everything, suspense, hot actors/actresses, and a complex plot. I love how they flash between past and present. I love a good mystery so trying to figure out who is telling the truth and what it really going on is so much fun, especially when I guess right!

Blindspot- Okay so I know I already said this but I LOVE THIS SHOW! A Jane Doe who doesn't know anything about herself but who has kick ass skills. I love her, I want to be her! Okay not so much the covered in tattoos part or the amnesia just the kick ass skills.

Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris- So I will admit I only watched a couple episodes and although I love NPH, they were just okay. It was funny but not as funny as I thought it would be. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I don't like how it jumps around so much. There were moments that were funny and if there was nothing else on I would definitely watch it.

Limitless- I like this show I have to say I'm not as hooked on this show as Quantico and Blindspot but it is good. Maybe if I continue to watch it I will be hooked. It has everything to be a favourite of mine and Bradley Cooper also makes appearances which helps the eye candy factor.

Stay tuned I will be reviewing my other picks soon! So what do you think of my picks? What is your must watch show?

Seems everywhere you look emerald green is there. It just so happens that I have a lovely emerald green shirt in my closet that I bought before wearing emerald green was cool.
The color is so eye-catching and attention-grabbing on its own, so I would pair them with good ol’ black trousers. I love that the shirt has polka dots - you can never go wrong with polka dots... right?
How do you rock your emerald green?

Band of the Month: Half Moon Run

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

When I get a new album, I will play it non-stop for a few days for a couple of reasons. First reason: a new album/artist gets lost in the hundreds on songs in my collection and sometimes I even forget that I've even added it. Second reason: singles are greats but there are some really really great songs that the radio will never play.

I'm seriously in love with this Canadian Indie Rock band. Call Me in the Afternoon was the first single that I heard and was immediately hooked. And when I played the whole album on repeat for a week straight at work, the obsession deepened. Need It is easily my favourite song on this album and have played it for hours straight - insert line about the music speaking to my soul here.

They have a new album coming out, sun leads me on, which you can pre-order in 4 different formats on their website. New album usually means touring - which these guys totally are: across Canada, US, and UK. Many of their shows are already sold out - including Edmonton and Calgary which sucks for me but maybe you can get your hands on some tickets and then rub tell me all about the fabulous show I missed out on. From what I can tell they are playing more intimate venues which is perfect for their sound. Here's the video to a song off their new album.

Love . . . hate? Yay . . . nay?

Fitness talk with Vegan Pure

Thursday, October 8, 2015

Working out is my nemesis. It’s not only because any cardio makes me believe I am dying but it's meal planning, proteins, strength training… it's all of it. When did trying to be healthy get so complicated? In early September I started going back to the gym and making healthier meals... But that lasted about two weeks or so since I have never been able to stick to any eating plan or a diet.

I've been thinking about getting a protein shake for a while as that would be healthier and cheaper than stopping at a DQ on the way home from the gym. With so many options and differences, it was difficult choosing. Then I found VEGAN PURE All In One protein shake. It is a new plant based protein shake that has set the gold standard for great taste and silky smoothness in a nutritional shake. It's an ALL IN ONE- which means every serving delivers 16 grams of protein (same as 3 eggs), 4 grams of fibre (same as an apple), 2 servings of greens (same as 2 servings of kale), 1.5 grams of Omega 3 (same as 2.3 servings of salmon), 1 billion probiotics (same as a cup of yogurt) and 50% of your daily recommended intake of minerals and vitamins. How awesome is that? Take some complication out of the diet and make sure you are getting all the necessary nutrients.

I love the taste and the fact its smooth; I have added it to fruit smoothies as well as with just water. This is a great product for anyone who is looking to get a shake that is affordable and convenient. You can find it available at Walmart.

OOTD - Canadian Tuxedo 2.0

Canadian Tuxedo... We hear that all the time. If you are one of those fashion gifted individuals who understands that denim on denim, you know that is not only a fashion statement, but a way of life. See what I did there? I love wearing denim on denim; easy to wear and comfortable. I paired my favourite pair of jeans with this denim jacket. I know not a truly Canadian Tuxedo but I think it counts right?
