Trip-Planning Tips

I travel a lot , & over the years I found one thing that is true for every group (or couple) traveling...One person always takes charge of planning the trip—booking flights, scouting hotels, reading about the destination—while the other person is happy to just show up and see what happens. My friends and I are no exception.

Once we took a trip to Vegas just for the weekend. My girlfriends arrived at the airport saying ... "ammm do you have our boarding passes?" I laughed but this just typical us of anywhere we go. I organize everything and they just show up passports and bags in hand ready to go.

Generally I’m a planner. Planning gets me really excited for the trip, and planning lets me believe I got control of things. I love making lists, comparing prices  and I like researching places to stay and discovering restaurants loved by the locals, and I love a good deal. I can't be the only one?

Planning any trip can be a daunting task. Where do you begin? What’s step one? What’s step two? What’s step three? It’s easy to get overwhelmed in the beginning, especially when you haven’t done something like this before.
Here are few things that helped me plan previous trips:
One would think that picking a place and time is the easiest task of them all. I disagree, this is the most challenging part for me, since I want to go everywhere.  Do your research. Is it cheaper to travel where you want in Spring or Summer? Is it cheaper to book accommodation and flights together? Is Air B&B an option?
Use your money NOT the banks. Save for your trips, having a luxury of a credit card is great but traveling while getting into debt is scary.
Use rewards/points when you are paying for a trip. Any cost savings is good. right?
Research and plan your activates. Even if you are go-with-the-flow kind of person know what there is to do. If you are more of a I need an itinerary, great! Research and make a list of all the places that fit in your schedule.
Buy travel insurance. We all hope we never have to use it but things happen and you want to be protected and safe.

Are you a planner? or do you like to take things as they come?
