Five Ways You Can Practice Self-Care Every Single Day + a #giveaway

Thursday, August 15, 2019

Lately there has been so much talk about self-care, and I for one am all about it. It’s so important to make sure you take good care of your body, mind, and soul every day, not just when you get sick. Taking time for yourself is something all of us should do.
Here are few ways I practice self care every day:

Learn to say no, and be okay with it.
Learning to say no is really hard, like super hard for most of us, many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks and we feel guilty saying no. An important part of self-care is saying no to others, and says yes to your self-care. Most of us are very busy and stressed or overworked, so saying yes to all the things or offering a helping hand when you know your sleep will be jeopardized will lead to burnout, anxiety, and irritability.

Take  me time.
Weather you have to schedule it (I'm not kidding) or you make a mental note to set time aside for yourself you have to take some me time. Most of us generally don't miss appointments we make at doctors/lawyers/banks, so schedule that "me time" and stick to it.  Weather that  is spending time outside, going for a walk, going to yoga, doing a face mask or taking a long bath and reading – you will feel better and more relaxed.

Focus on the positive.
Not every day is a great day, some are gonna suck but every single day before bed write down 3 things that went well today. They can be as simple as my hair looks great today or I rocked that meeting. Shifting your focus to be more positive made a world of difference for me, especially how I see things now. I write in my day timer, but a journal or even your iPhone notes will work. I set a reminder on my phone that every day at 10:45PM it dings reminding me to write down my good things for the day.

Get moving.
30 minutes a day of moving makes a world of difference (according to some study somewhere, but also from experience). So go to the gym, go for a walk, go to yoga,  whatever you do try to do something active every day. This will help you sleep better, and this is perfect time to distress and clear your mind.

Drink water.
I drink way too much coffee which only makes my anxiety worse, which leads to less sleep and so on in a never ending circle. I started to keep track of how much water I drink and to be more mindful of drinking water (another phone reminder), I found that not only am I drinking way less coffee, I'm more alert (and my skin looks great!)
