Born Pretty Nail Polish

Monday, September 9, 2024

I love getting my nails done, I love all the pretty colors and options. Finding quality affordable nail polish that last a long time can be challenge. So I got my hands on Born Pretty nail polish. It's has fantastic effects and a beautiful range of nail art to create exceptional and unique nails.
I got few colors, along with magnetic nail polishes. If you’re unfamiliar with gel nail polishes, these don’t air dry. You need to cure them under a LED or UV lamp for anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes depending on the brand of nail polish and the type of light that you use. I bought this LED/UV lamp on Amazon and it works great.
I prefer gel polishes because they last longer than regular nail polish. I only do my nails on Friday night because that’s the one night I can stay up late and sleep in the next day. However, my manicure will rarely last into the next week, but with this gel polish I made it 7 days. On 7th day I chipped my index finger color but sitting in the hot tub might have contributed to that.

#bookofthemonth The Great Divide by Cristina Henríquez

Tuesday, September 3, 2024

I m gonna be honest, I started and stopped reading this book a few times but once I did commit I enjoyed it.

"An epic novel of the construction of the Panama Canal, casting light on the unsung people who lived, loved, and labored there, by Cristina Henríquez, acclaimed author of The Book of Unknown Americans

It is said that the canal will be the greatest feat of engineering in history. But first, it must be built. For Francisco, a local fisherman who resents the foreign powers clamoring for a slice of his country, nothing is more upsetting than the decision of his son, Omar, to work as a digger in the excavation zone. But for Omar, whose upbringing was quiet and lonely, this job offers a chance to finally find connection.

Ada Bunting is a bold sixteen-year-old from Barbados who arrives in Panama as a stowaway alongside thousands of other West Indians seeking work. Alone and with no resources, she is determined to find a job that will earn enough money for her ailing sister’s surgery. When she sees a young man—Omar—who has collapsed after a grueling shift, she is the only one who rushes to his aid.

John Oswald has dedicated his life to scientific research and has journeyed to Panama in single-minded pursuit of one goal: eliminating malaria. But now, his wife, Marian, has fallen ill herself, and when he witnesses Ada’s bravery and compassion, he hires her on the spot as a caregiver. This fateful decision sets in motion a sweeping tale of ambition, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Searing and empathetic, The Great Divide explores the intersecting lives of activists, fishmongers, laborers, journalists, neighbors, doctors, and soothsayers—those rarely acknowledged by history even as they carved out its course."

Time for a Staycation: How to Kick Back, Relax, and Vacation in Edmonton With Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West

Monday, September 2, 2024

Winter is when many of us would like to get away, but let's get real: if you're on a budget, balancing mortgage payments and savings for the future, saving money for  your next vacation might not be exactly in reach. Luckily, you don't need to spend your entire savings on your next adventure this winter: a staycation can be just as (or even more) relaxing.
Stay-cations are pretty great—plus less stressful and more affordable. I recently had a little staycation at Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West
So what makes a good stay-cation?

A great place to stay.
The Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West rooms are incredible - they are specious, modern and very comfortable. With recent upgrades and renos it's a new and refreshing stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West and it has everything you need to make your trip an excellent and memorable one.

Great food.
A staycation is the perfect time to get dressed up and have a good meal at a local restaurant so bring your significant other or a girlfriend and treat yourself. While staying at the hotel we ended up at AQUA Bistro restaurant. The service was great, food was very well presented and tasted delicious. The ambiance was good and relaxing and the everything on the menu is priced well. The hotel stay includes breakfast at AQUA and let me tell you - that was so good.

A place to relax and recharge.
Is there anything better than sitting in the hot tub after a long day to relax. The pool and hot tub at the Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West are perfect for chilling c and enjoying good company.

The hotel also offers a gym and with my 2020 goals still going strong it was awesome to get a run in.

What do you look for in a perfect staycation?
