Book of the Month: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Let's just start by saying that books are life. I've spent so much time absorbed in the lives of characters created by great, good, mediocre, and bad authors that I couldn't even imagine what the world would be like without them. So I found it necessary to start a book of the month post to share some of my favourite escapes.

Very quick synopsis: Claire Randall is an English nurse taking a second honeymoon with her husband in Scotland. Through magical stones she is transported back in time to 1745 and the story begins. The story of Claire's adventures 200 years before her time, with her sassy mouth and a sexy Scot and some dreadful Redcoats. For a more thorough overview, check out Goodreads (love this website).

I recently finished the first in this series of eight and really enjoyed it. I've already purchased the second one to continue on. Now for the recommendation about this book - power through the first 50-100 pages. They are incredibly boring. It was almost bad enough that I didn't make it to the good stuff. But hang in there! It's worth it, promise. By the end of the book I was mostly in love with our lead Scot, Jamie and was thinking in a Scottish accent. Both of these things were great by products of reading this book. It's a great romance adventure that last a bit longer than the average romance novel coming in at over 800 pages. The story flows smoothly with a little bit of love and thrills to keep you intrigued. Plus there is a TV showed based on the series that so many people keep talking about too!

Have you read it? Do you love it? Hate it? Would love to hear from you about this book or any other one  you think is a must read.
