Five Things I've Learned After Being Single for One Year

Thursday, November 17, 2016

After 12 years, I re-entered the "single" world. The world is pretty much the same from one day to the next. It feels similar to having a birthday - everything seems the same in the very beginning. But there are a few things I've learned in the last year once the differences began to show.

1. Being single is AWESOME! Putting yourself first - your needs, wants, likes, dislikes before anyone else is great! And there isn't anyone to put guilt on you for that.

2. No one believes that you could possibly be happy single. They assume you should be on the hunt for a person right away. Smile and nod. As it turns out, you don't need to justify your happiness to any of these people.

3. There are two types of single people. The type where other's feel the need to ask you "so are you seeing anyone" (even if you have only been single for 4 days). Or the type where no one asks you that. Not sure what differentiates one from the other but it's there.

4. Although you may have been a great wingman - it's a whole different ballgame when you may have to close a deal for yourself. Enter: awkwardness and feet jammed up in your mouth. Exit: cool and quirky chick. I have yet to find a solution for this problem but my friends are thoroughly entertained.

5.Sex and the City is not real. Meeting people weekly and every where naturally is not real. Either that or I'm not approachable. Either way - work, set ups, and online seem to be the only way to do it. The bright side? Online dating has birthed some of THE funniest Instagram accounts @onlinedating_sucks and @tinderinyour30s

Any little gems you'd like to pass on to the "single" people?

  1. This is a very genuine post. One of the biggest things I have learned from being single after a five year relationship is that I know nothing about dating and that's ok. I agree that Sex and the city just lied to us, about everything relationship.

  2. That's another great thing to add to the list: knowing nothing about dating and that it's ok! I totally agree!

I wouldn't take Carrie Bradshaw's relationships, but that closet would be sweet!

    Thanks for reading! :)
