2018 In Review

Friday, December 21, 2018

2018 was a lot - there are so many things that were so wonderful, also many things that 2018 can keep and if those things were to never happen again that would be cool.

2018 kicked off like any other with a few things to focus on, I don't like to call them resolutions but that's what they are. I did well at most of those things but none of them to 100% of what they should be. The words, work in progress come to mind.
There was lots of travel in 2018 as well - started in LA with my brother and than Europe with friends. None of them have even been to Bosnia so I was super excited to share my home country with them. We pretty much ate our way through Bosnia, Croatia and Italy; did a lot of sight seeing; stalled the car a few times at the most inopportune times and then (most importantly) Zahra got married in most beautiful place, in Dubrovnik wearing a wedding dress made by yours truly (SO exciting right?).
Spring and Summer around that Europe trip were a blur - I recall lots (and I mean like A LOT) of work and volunteer events and conferences. I know this is not a bad thing because I love being busy, but in the chaos you forget to appreciate all the opportunities you had. Before I knew it, it was October. I ran 2 out of 3 Spartan's in the tri-fecta so not bad but could have been better. All the travel,  work conferences, being more diligent about the blog and paying a little more attention to my social media has resulted in meeting some amazing bad ass women, and I'm thankful for them.

2018 also didn't hold back any punches - I don't remember last time I cried this much or when I was this stressed and anxious. However, in every challenge there is a lesson, good or bad, either way you learn something.

2018 taught me that even the best hatched plans go array.

2018 taught me that even if people say tell me the truth, they really don't want to hear it.

2018 taught me that I'm okay with being the bad guy.

2018 reminded me that my family will always have my back, even when they are not 100% on board with whatever.

2018 taught me that everyone is going to put themselves first, often regardless of the cost, and I have to be okay with that.

2018 taught me that music and a 3 minute dance party truly do make my day better.

Lastly, 2018 taught me that most things work out exactly as they should - sometimes not the way I think they would or want them to but everything happens for a reason. That reason might suck but there always seems to be a reason. (EXCEPT, what happened to C - this is still awful, and I m still angry at life for you. Love ya!)

So, here is to  2018. Thank you for the memories, but thank you for the lessons more.

How was your 2018?

  1. ♥ My 2018 was also filled with lessons and growth. It was a MF of a year at some points - but I feel like I am truly stronger! Enjoy your holidays!
