OOTD - Long-Sleeved Dresses To Help Make The Transitional Weather Bearable

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

The temperatures have been all over the place here in Edmonton, but I m ready for Spring. A long-sleeved dress with a twist tie loo I absolutely love this dress! I ordered the dress while back (pandemic online shopping, you know) but it fits perfectly, and is both comfortable and flattering. The fabric is soft and lovely and the extra bonus is that it has pockets. Its still a little chilly out so I decided to pair it with fun pair of tights and blush coat.

This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith

" On a rainy October night in Kentucky, recently divorced therapist Tallie Clark is on her way home from work when she spots a man precariously standing on the side of a bridge. Without a second thought, Tallie pulls over and jumps out of the car into the pouring rain. She convinces the man to join her for a cup of coffee, and he eventually agrees to come back to her house, where he finally shares his name: Emmett.

Over the course of the emotionally charged weekend that follows, Tallie makes it her mission to provide a safe space for Emmett, though she hesitates to confess that this is also her day job. But what she doesn't realize is that he's not the only one who needs healing -- and she's not the only one with secrets.

Alternating between Tallie and Emmett's perspectives as they inch closer to the truth of what brought Emmett to the bridge's edge -- as well as the hard truths Tallie has been grappling with in her own life -- This Close to Okay is a vibrant, powerful story of two strangers brought together by wild chance at the moment they needed each other most."

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

"Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre's Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta's orbit. But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other's arms."

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner

"Rule #1: The poison must never be used to harm another woman.

Rule #2: The names of the murderer and her victim must be recorded in the apothecary’s register.

One cold February evening in 1791, at the back of a dark London alley in a hidden apothecary shop, Nella awaits her newest customer. Once a respected healer, Nella now uses her knowledge for a darker purpose—selling well-disguised poisons to desperate women who would kill to be free of the men in their lives. But when her new patron turns out to be a precocious twelve-year-old named Eliza Fanning, an unexpected friendship sets in motion a string of events that jeopardizes Nella’s world and threatens to expose the many women whose names are written in her register.

In present-day London, aspiring historian Caroline Parcewell spends her tenth wedding anniversary alone, reeling from the discovery of her husband’s infidelity. When she finds an old apothecary vial near the river Thames, she can’t resist investigating, only to realize she’s found a link to the unsolved “apothecary murders” that haunted London over two centuries ago. As she deepens her search, Caroline’s life collides with Nella’s and Eliza’s in a stunning twist of fate—and not everyone will survive.

With crackling suspense, unforgettable characters and searing insight, The Lost Apothecary is a subversive and intoxicating exploration of women rebelling against a man’s world, the destructive force of revenge and the remarkable ways that women can save each other despite the barrier of time."

The Little French Bridal Shop by Jennifer Dupee

"When Larisa Pearl returns to her small seaside hometown in Massachusetts to manage her beloved great aunt's estate, she's a bit of an emotional mess. She's just lost her job and her boyfriend and she's struggling to cope with her mother's failing health. When she passes by the window of The Little French Bridal Shop, a beautiful ivory satin wedding gown catches her eye...

Now, to the delight of everyone in town, Larisa is planning her wedding. She has her dress, made floral arrangements, and set the date. The only thing missing is the groom. How did this happen? All she did was try on a dress and let her fantasy take flight. But word about her upcoming nuptials has reached the ears of Jack Merrill. As teenagers, they spent time together on her great aunt's estate, building a friendship that could have become something more had they chosen different paths.

Lost in a web of her own lies, Larisa must first face some difficult truths, including her mother's fragile future, before she can embrace her family, straighten out her life, and open her heart to finding love."

Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson
"Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Brown was promised her freedom on her eighteenth birthday. But when her birthday finally comes around, instead of the idyllic life she was hoping for with her true love, she finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half-Acre, a jail where slaves are broken, tortured, and sold every day. Forced to become the mistress of the brutal man who owns the jail, Pheby faces the ultimate sacrifice to protect her heart in this powerful, thrilling story of one slave’s fight for freedom."

OOTD - Jumper and Midi Skirt

Monday, March 29, 2021

Over the last little while, a lot of my outfits have been a version of a comfortable slouchy sweater, and some kind of midi skirt, and boots. I think that is the making of a perfect transitional outfit. This week I paired my favorite soft jumper, midi skirt and open toed shoes.

Ultimate Easter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thursday, March 25, 2021

I love cookies I also love Easter time for endless amount of chocolate treat that are available. Cookies by George recently introduced Easter cookies and I thought I'd make some too.
There are super simple to make and delicious. The usual recipe I use makes about 48 cookies but this time I cut the recipe in half because living alone no-one needs 48 cookies.
What you are going to need:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 medium egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
pastel m&m's or mini eggs

How to make it:
Heat oven to 375°F. In small bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.

In large bowl, beat softened butter and sugars with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon about 1 minute or until fluffy, scraping side of bowl occasionally.

Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth. Stir in flour mixture just until blended (dough will be stiff). Stir in chocolate chips.

Onto a cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart and top with M&M's.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft).

Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.

If you are looking for full recipe, I used this recipe and modified for what I wanted. I would reckoned curing sugar and chocolate chips if you are using M&M's are the cookies become too sweet.

Are You Fashion-Ready For The Return Of Summer Festivals?

Most women adore festival fashion. As soon as the sun starts to shine and the music season kicks off they all head to their favourite stores in order to find the best fashion pieces. This year has been no different. As the festival season was cancelled last year, people are more excited about their return! From getting lip fillers and hair extensions to having a boob job or going on a health kick to lose weight; there is no end to the preparation women are getting booked in!

With festivals yet to come, you still have time to pick up some of the remaining festival pieces before the season comes and goes for yet another year. But how do you rock this look properly in 2021? Read on to discover this year’s hottest festival trends.

The must-have accessory for 2021 is undoubtedly round sunglasses. Last year it was cat eyeglasses, and this year it is without question the rounded version. We have the late John Lennon to thank for this fantastic trend. After all, he was definitely known for his love of round glasses. Just imagine if you could lay back on a field and listen to The Beatles rock the stage with your ultra-cool shades on. These sunglasses have a real British and edgy feel to them. And it is definitely a trend that has been embraced by the top celebrities too. Everyone from Demi Lovato to Rihanna has been spotted in these cool and quirky shades.

Nonetheless, it is not all about accessories, your clothes need to be on point too! It is time to embrace prints. There are no rules. There are no favourites. From floral, to Aztec, to geometric patterns, to leopard print, to stripes, to zebra print; the choices are endless. It is all about being loud and bold with your choice. And remember; the good thing about fashion festival is that literally, anything goes! So feel free to mix and match your prints together and really experiment with your outfits.

Aside from the trends already mentioned, why not go for boho? The bohemian style is one that works really well in a festival environment. How would you describe the atmosphere at a festival? It is all about enjoying yourself. Not having a care in the world. Feeling completely laid back. Well, this is exactly what boho chic is all about too. You don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to. And when you consider the fact that most people camp at festivals, by the last day of the event you probably won’t be able to dress up anyway. So embrace the boho feel! Wear minimal make-up and let your hair take its natural form.

To finish off we are going to go back to another accessory; a printed scarf. This is a fun and easy way to bring some energy and personality to your look. If you take a look online you will have a wealth of different designs to choose from. Skull scarves are really popular and they are great for those with an edgy style. Nevertheless, if you are someone who prefers to be pretty and polished, then going for a floral scarf is a great alternative.

OOTD - Spring Dresses to Get Excited About Now

Monday, March 8, 2021

Spring is just around the corner, and not only that means better weather but also the comeback of pretty dresses (and flowers!). I think it’s safe to say that I have reached a point in quarantine where getting over the sweaters (or PJ’s) has been a challenge. I am VERY excited for warmer days and seriously can’t wait to start wearing real clothes again. I’ve even been doing a little (okay A LOT) of online window shopping to get inspired for my spring wardrobe. Here are few dresses I loved and would make a great addition for Spring.

Simple Farmhouse Inspired Window Treatment

Thursday, March 4, 2021

When I got my condo it came standard with very simple, boring boxy looking blinds. I wanted to change it but because my condo is new it would have to be without any modification to walls etc. for the first year.

When I bought my home, I had NO clue how expensive window treatments could be, like why are rods like 50 bucks, why are all the curtains I like 30 dollars per one (not even a set??). This transformation cost 25 dollars all in. I absolutely love the farm style inspired windows so I picked up some sticky tags and sheer curtains and got to work.
What you will need:
Command Utility Hooks, sheet curtains, white string.

I purchased the command hooks at Walmart and got two boxes for $4.99 each. The curtains are also from Walmart and were on sale for $12.99

First I took of the cover as it was bulky, and than measured the width of the curtain hook/loops.
I places the adhesive tracks and hang the curtain.
I started on each end of the window and once I came to the middle the curtains would over lap, that way creating more of a farm inspired feel.

I used a the command utility hooks on the side and used a white siring that I have looped so I can keep the curtains open.
